2012 Things to do

27 May 2012

It is a fact. People like to cross things off. So after purchasing a purple shirt today, one of the things I told myself I'd put on a 2012 to do list, I'm making a 2012 to do list.
(This might extend into 2013 but I might just be on the verge of my own real bucket list.)

Get my license back
Have another date night with Rich ( x6)
Buy a purple shirt
Bake my own gluten free cookies
Take a class
Get my  hair cut
Have a picnic
Get a tattoo
Become employed again
Have an afternoon just Erik and I
Be more open minded when trying to make new mom friends
Become more organized
Go camping
Go on a family vacation
Ride a horse
Visit ground zero
Back up all digital photos

The World Is Not Enough

http://tinyurl.com/cpfk2vd

Are we really surprised at these rates?

What is sad is that only 1/3 have been approved so far. In some cases these former service members cannot work and are dependent on these claims getting processed in a "timely" manner.

What is even more sad than that is from person experience with a lot of "wild cards" in one's back pocket, a state senator's office working on expediting the claim, and the VA putting urgency on the matter is that it takes 12 months. Then people wonder why we have so many homeless veterans when they had such promising lives.
If you say you support our troops then really, support our troops.

Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone, have fun, be safe.

Market Saturday

26 May 2012

Well here it is, Saturday again.

Mollie let us snooze until almost 7:30am this morning. Talk about freaking nice!

Today we're headed out to the farmer's market. I hope to see the lady with the gluten free booth again. Sadly I have not been able to make my bread yet. Heck I just picked up my apple cider vinegar yesterday. I'll definitely have to pick up a sweet treat though. Her cookies were yummy and I'm sure I'll be in need of a snack right. Maybe we'll find some nice veggies for dinner. Or some new plants for the garden. You never know what you will find at the farmer's market. That is part of the reason I love it. And of course all the people, and the music, and supporting the local economy in the best way possible.

Today is supposed to be nice. I can't wait to get ready and get out and enjoy it with these beautiful people that I am lucky to call my family.

I got carded today for buying sparklers! Flattering yet funny that this young man thought that I, with my two kids was not 18 years of age. Thank you kind young boy.

Market Success!

23 May 2012

We had a great time at the Farmer's Market. Sorry for the late update. It was a rather inspiring event. Made Rich want to farm even more and me think, hey, this would be fun. He's looking to buy a house in the next year or so with farm land. I hope that he does because I would totally help him.

I got my application in the mail to apply to the Phlebotomy program. It's sad when you are 28 and so unsure of what you want to do. It's something though, it's better than nothing, and always something to fall back on.

Thanks to Freecycle and my nice friend Tonya we were able to score about 10 or more planters for the garden to start our seeds in and for transplanting and two really nice larger pots, one of which already became home to Rich's aloe plant. I love Freecycle. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Freecycle!

Mollie was a great little helper in the garden.

She had some help from her big brother to show her what to do though.

Erik loves being outside and helping. He helped fill all our pots and planted our yellow hot lemon peppers.

We have some radishes, hot yellow lemon peppers, oregano, sweet red peppers, and rosemary.

A very serious brother and sister conversation.

Kept out of the trash or a landfill thanks to freecycle!!!!

And two of these pots two, but one already got put to good use for Rich's aloe plant. It needed a new home, please see below!

Graduate

19 May 2012

Erik graduated from Head Start yesterday. I am so proud of him. They had a nice little ceremony. The kids got their certificates and walked "across the bridge" to represent the cross over to kindergarten.

Erik got to share this special day with his dad and I, his grammie and papa. Him and his classmates played and then we had a picnic outside. Gluten free I had a burger pattie watermelon and cucumbers. Better than nothing even though that pasta salad looked to die for. Mmmm.

My big boy is 5 and now graduated preschool. Today we are off to the famer's market in search of goodies and the store for hopefully some topsy turvy planters. We are supposed to be graced with 80+ degree weather the next 2 days so we plan on taking full advantage of that!

Happy Summer!!!!!

Gluten Free

15 May 2012

That's the way it is, for me anyways, from here on out. It's the culprit behind my cholesterol being so low. It's alright. I've made a rice flour based pie crust so I could have chocolate cream pie and Rich made me gluten free pizza for Mother's day. We're all getting used to it.
