Metal Mama

Metal, meet motherhood; motherhood meet metal. This is where my two loves meet & become one world.

18 month check up.

Erik is growing up so fast! He is 28.6 pounds and in the 75th percentile for weight and he is 36 3/4 inches tall and off the charts. I really cannot believe what a little boy he is turning into. His Dr. talked to us about the terrible two's and positive reinforcement for good behavior. This conversation started because Erik has his all his milestones right on time if not VERY early... I guess... according to his Dr. SO! We also talked about the potty and his vocabulary.

The potty sits in the living room or by the door to the bathroom. Erik is very familiar with it and I am pretty sure he knows what you are supposed to do on it but he won't sit on it naked. I think he is just going to take his diaper off one day, shock the hell outta me, and pee standing up.

They asked if he had a vocabulary of 5-20 words. I was like 20 WORDS? No. But none the less his Dr. did seem impressed with what he can say and identify. Mama, Dada, bubba which has not been used since we ditched the bottle, cat and dog which he can identify IRL, in pictures, movies, or books, owl which he does not say yet but knows by sight. I definitely say BAD CAT! way too much because whenever one of the cats are doing something bad he will shake his finger or fist and say blah*jibberish*blah-cat it's the cutest thing and I am so happy that he really ONLY does that when they are misbehaving. I also think he is working on thank you. Sometimes when we give him something that he is asking for (by pointing) he will jibber away something that relatively sounds like it.

Today he also had his ear's rechecked because he had that NASTY ear infection on the 24th. Now he has a double ear infection and thankfully a prescription for Zithromax.

I asked them on the 24th why o' why they were prescribing him Amoxyscyllin??? I was assured that it was strong, safe, and the medicine for the job. "It would knock his ear infections right out". HAH, ******* funny. I told the lady, who had NEVER seen Erik before that he has had Zithromax at least on two other occasions and he did so well with it. Anyhow the Amoxyscillin was a pretty big flop. I felt like such a loser at first telling his Dr. that there were days that we were lucky to get 1 1/2-2 teaspoons into him, over the coarse of 10 days. RIDICULOUS. IMO. Today we got our Zithromax and Erik took it WITHOUT diluting it, without breaking up the dose, and almost with no fuss. I am pretty proud tonight.

His eczema is still present. It has cleared up tremendously, but due to some of the side effects of continuous Hydrocortizone usage we did decide to take the prescription for Westcort. I have to pick it up tomorrow because our pharmacy could not tell if they wrote cream or ointment, though I am pretty sure the Dr. said cream. Anyhow we talked it all over and came up with a simple regimen if it "flares up".

I've been breastfeeding for 18 months and am so proud of that. I honestly just thought I would "give it s try" and I really didn't think I would like it. I think I was too tired in the first week or two to realize if I did like it, but I stuck with it and am so glad. I've got a great support system; Skot and my friend Samantha who was my LC, and I've been so fortunate to have a supportive employer who provided me with the time and privacy to pump at work, and I've been so lucky to be able to utilize the wonderful community resources of local meetings and mom groups.
